How To Organize A DVD Movie Collection

A large DVD collection can be wonderful to own, but it can also be difficult to keep track of. Trying to find a movie you want can take a lot of time and become a frustrating task. If you really want to appreciate your movie collection, it needs to be organized. For most people, this is easier said than done. Movie Collector Plus allows you to organize and keep track of your movies in the way that is easiest for you.

Shelves or Binders. The first step to getting organized is to decide how you want to store your DVDs. Shelves or towers made just for DVDs are a great storage solution and a popular choice for those wishing to display their collection. Binders or cases made to hold just the discs are also a great way to keep your movies organized.

Alphabetical or Numerical. Next is to decide how you want to arrange them to make finding them and putting them back easy. The two most popular ways are alphabetical by title or numerical using the movie ID number in your collection. If using shelves, either option will work. If using binders, it is almost necessary to use the numerical method.

Pros and Cons: Alphabetical is great for getting to your movie quick. If you know the title, you know right where to find it. The downside to alphabetical storage is the hassle of constantly adjusting your movies when you add to your collection. Numerical is great because you don’t need to do any adjusting. Your newest movie is always your last movie. The downside to numerical storage is that you need to have your list to know the movie number.

Getting it Organized. Now that you have decided what is important to you in your storage needs and how you want to arrange, it’s time to get started. Using a movie or DVD database system such as Movie Collector Plus is a must. It takes a little time to enter your collection but is well worth it. You now have your movie collection at your fingertips! You can sort and view your collection any way you want to and print your list.

Step 1: Sort your movies how you are storing them, either alphabetical or numerical and print out a copy to use as an easy, handy reference anytime! It will also be helpful getting started.

Step 2: If you are using shelves or binders, alphabetical or numerical – it doesn’t matter. Grab the printout you made and start putting them away in order. It’s that easy!

Keeping it Organized. Now that you got it that way, you want it to stay that way without time and hassle. Each time you get some new movies, log in to Movie Collector Plus and add them to your collection. Every now and then, it is a good idea to print a new copy of your collection for reference. They are fun to flip through when picking out a movie and make finding it and putting it away a snap.

User Opinion

Awesome! I have been searching for a way to catalog my DVD collection and have tried a few, but none can compare to Movie Collector Plus. It is fast, very easy to use, thorough, and the functionality is great. I can't say enough good things about it. My collection of movies is quite large and without MCP, I'd get lost in it. Thanks again!

Testimonial

Thanks to Movie Collector Plus, movie night is a breeze. It used to take us 30+ minutes to find a movie. My friends and I would look through all my DVD's for an eternity just to find the one they wanted to see. We can now enter search criteria to find something to watch and it now only takes a couple of minutes to decide.

I've also sent some invitations to friends to view my collection online. Now that's convenience! Thanks again for helping me to get organized.
